DAYTON – Mary Margaret Evans joins Parallax Advanced Research as executive director for the Academic Partnership Engagement Experiment ( ): a program designed to improve the connections between the U.S. Air Force, academia and industry across the U.S. to result in a major leap forward for U.S. Air Force defense technology development.

, a $49 million partnership intermediary agreement, was awarded to Parallax in 2019. Parallax is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2011 to tackle global challenges by accelerating innovation, developing technology and solutions through strategic partnerships with government, industry and academia.

Under the leadership of Parallax CEO Dennis Andersh, Evans will lead in enhancing academic engagement nationwide in support of the 2030 Science and Technology Strategy. Specifically, seeks to cultivate innovation by expanding the American research enterprise for the U.S. Air Force. does this by building collaborations amongst innovators in academia, industry and the government who possess capabilities of interest to the U.S. Air Force; by utilizing data analytics to identify transformational operational defense solutions in these sectors; by providing high-touch process navigation for business startups and proposals; and by engaging with Department of Defense ( ) programs to connect universities, businesses and government entities in a way that moves defense technology from discovery to reality.

Prior to joining Parallax, Evans supported the U.S. Navy Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education Transformation effort that was designed to build a new enterprise support organization. Earlier, Evans was with LMI as vice president and with the as the principal director of the Manufacturing and Industrial Base Policy Office in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Evans also held a variety of executive positions at Insitu, Inc.: a small aerospace company that produces unmanned aerial systems. Before Insitu, Evans held a variety of positions in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Her public-sector experience runs the gamut from introducing state-of-the-art business practices to the to accelerating the transition of research and development technologies into U.S. military capabilities; directing the planning and execution of all conventional arms control treaties and agreements; and successfully advancing U.S. negotiating positions with the former Soviet Union as technical advisor to the Defense and Space Talks in Geneva.

Evans holds a Master of Security Policy Studies from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in History and German from the University of Virginia.
