Dr. Edward D. Herderick

Dr. Edward D. Herderick is the Director for Education and Workforce Development (EWD) for America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM). He is responsible for providing strategy and program management leadership in EWD for customer project initiatives, conducting business development, and providing subject matter expertise in EWD-related project efforts. His passion is accelerating the introduction of technology to the US advanced manufacturing supply chain.

Prior to NCDMM, he served as the VP for Science and Technology Development at NSL Analytical in Cleveland, OH, where he played a pivotal role in the company’s growth, particularly with a focus on services in additive manufacturing and allied aerospace manufacturing industries.

Before his time at NSL Analytical, Ed served as the Director of Additive Manufacturing at The Ohio State University CDME where he led efforts to grow AM capabilities and programs across campus in partnership with students, staff, and external stakeholders. This included both industrial applications and the launch of the Medical Manufacturing and Modeling (M4) medical-focused additive and medical device development team in collaboration with a joint clinical and engineering team.

Ed brings nearly 20 years of experience in implementing industrial additive manufacturing (AM) from metals to ceramics to polymers. His strategic business skills have contributed to the growth of several organizations, including NSL Analytical, OSU, GE, Rapid Prototype + Manufacturing, and Edison Welding Institute research lab.

He earned his Materials Science and Engineering doctoral degree from The Ohio State University.
