Mr. Mike Hripko has recently retired as Youngstown State University’s Associate Vice President for External Affairs, Government Relations, and Economic Development, a position he had held since 2018. In this role, Mike’s focus was on regional economic development initiatives, and in forming major research partnerships. His efforts contributed towards the University securing some $20 million in research funding and $25 million in regional infrastructure funding. 

He previously served as YSU’s Associate VP for Research, where he was responsible for management and compliance for all externally funded grants.  

Previously, Mike worked at America Makes as Deputy Director of Workforce and Educational Outreach, where he was responsible for developing and coalescing a national workforce and education strategy in additive manufacturing. 

In 2009, Mike was appointed Director for Research and Technology-based Economic Development for the Youngstown State University College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, responsible for establishing and supporting industry, government, and academic collaborations resulting in technology-based research. 

Mike previously enjoyed a 31-year career with Delphi Packard Electric Systems, in Warren, Ohio, where he led a team responsible for comprehensive product portfolio management, coordination and prioritization of new product development, and achievement of quality and profitability metrics. 

In retirement, in addition to consulting in regional economic development, Mike serves as Board Chair for BRITE, Ohio’s Energy Incubator, and also serves on the advisory board of the Advanced Manufacturing and Research Innovation Institute. 

Mike holds a B.S. in Mathematics degree from the University of Dayton, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering (Operations Research) from the University of Iowa, and an M.B.A. from Kent State University.
