The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center
The National Armaments Consortium (NAC), in support of the DOD’s Critical Energetic Materials Working Group, will be hosting an event to discuss the Biosynthesis of Cellulose in Support of the DoD on September 17-18, 2024 in Blacksburg, VA. Technical presentations and panels will be held at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center on September 17-18, 2024.
This workshop will cover recent research advances in the use of rapidly emerging biological production methods for creating new sources of the important feed stock, cellulose. One of DoD’s workhorse chemical precursors is being created with advanced bacterial generation methods, resulting in novel forms of this important polymer. The workshop style environment will include presentations from large scale industry production of conventional sources of cellulose for DoD applications to government researchers who are exploring harvesting, purification, characterization, subsequent chemical transformations including novel forms of nitrocellulose. This workshop will be carried out in a restricted information venue (Controlled Unclassified Information, Distribution C) by invitation only and will not be open to the public or academia. This is an opportunity for meeting and sharing ideas between professionals from both commercial and government backgrounds, mixing biological sciences, production, and energetic material applications. There will be oral presentations (up to CUI Distribution C level) from a wide array of government and industrial backgrounds on current R&D efforts with ample time for open discussions and commentary.
