The Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) and Parallax Advanced Research teams, with JobsOhio, jointly led an Ohio delegation to the United Kingdom to participate in the Farnborough Airshow, one of the premiere global events in commercial and defense aerospace. The delegation included Ohio representatives from industry, the economic development sector, government, and academia, including NASA Glenn Research Center. JobsOhio regional partners Dayton Development Coalition, REDI Cincinnati, and Team NEO also participated to represent different regions of the state. Their mission was to highlight and build Ohio’s presence in the global aerospace sector.
Throughout the week, the Ohio team engaged in meetings with major aerospace companies to solidify relationships and to discuss opportunities that Ohio has to offer. Highlights also included a joint reception by the Ohio Aerospace Institute and their partner Farnborough Aerospace Consortium that focused on building collaborative international partnerships.
Various engagements hosted by the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium, Aerospace Industries Association, Aéro Montréal, Investment Quebec, the British Ambassador to the United States, and others, provided our delegation the opportunity to network and connect with important individuals in the industry to strengthen ongoing relationships and build new opportunities for Ohio.
The final days included touring the headquarters of OAI member Materion in their UK location, which provided insights on a successful international aerospace manufacturing operation.
On the airshow stage, Ohio was represented by Tim Sweeney of JobsOhio, where he discussed the state's strategy for advanced air mobility, and Prof. John Horack of The Ohio State University, who shared details of the institution's partnership with Starlab.
“Ohio and the expertise of our aerospace industry was represented very well,” said Kim Holizna, managing director Global Development & Member Programs at OAI. “The research and development we offer, our contributions to the industry, the many benefits available to aerospace companies that do business in Ohio, and our ability to connect companies to what they need to succeed is very clear and communicated well at the airshow. We look forward to the next show.”
The delegation's presence at the airshow highlighted Ohio's leadership in the aerospace industry. We will build upon the connections made and advance Ohio’s contributions to the aerospace industry, and we come away with opportunities that will help Ohio grow and expand in this growing sector.
